Software giant Microsoft acquires Mojang, the creator of Minecraft, for $2.5 billion. Part of the deal, Mojang employees will join Microsoft Studios, which alerady publishes games like the blockbuster Halo, Forza Motorsport of Gears of War series, which are really big difference in graphics but in the gameplay not.
“Gaming is a top activity spanning devices, from PCs and consoles to tablets and mobile, with billions of hours spent each year,” Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said in a statement. “Minecraft is more than a great game franchise – it is an open world platform, driven by a vibrant community we care deeply about, and rich with new opportunities for that community and for Microsoft.” added
In a news release, the computer jaggernaut said that its mobile and cloud offerings would help add more development tools, sophisticated worlds and ways for players to connect with each other.
Microsoft said that it expected the deal to break even in its 2015 fiscal year.
The deal is expected to close late this year.
